Important things tend to be hidden, maybe that strange maze has something to do with it?

The maze requires a marble, which you’ll find down in the basement.
Answer
Crouch down close to the human remains on the bloodied mattress. Look in its right hand and you’ll find a bag of marbles.

The coin you found is going to be useful, but probably not in the way you think.

The roof has collapsed in – that might be a way to escape the cabin!

Use the coin on the room upstairs, where the roof has fallen in.

After clicking on the door and getting a close-up of the lock, unscrew each screw with the coin by clicking on it numerous times.

If only a convenient and very sturdy log had collapsed into the room.
Answer
Walk to the base of the log and jump on, then proceed to walk up it. Look above to another log until the hotspot “climb” appears, then click.
I’m on a roof. My character is having a bad time and all I want to do is get down to the ground.

More usefully, perhaps you should find a good spot to drop down to the ground?

The roof is at an angle, so you’ll probably find the lowest spot is down by the chimney side.
Answer
Walk along the roof, past the chimney at the lowest point, you’ll find a number of broken tiles there. Look down – you should see the remainders of a wooden awning below you. Step off and drop down!
